After Four Daughters, My Husband Finally Got His Son — Then He Whispered Something That Terrified Me

Aaron stared at our newborn son for several seconds.

The room was strangely quiet.

I waited for him to smile.

Instead, he slowly looked at me.

“Where did you get him?”

I thought I had misheard him.

“What?”

He looked back at the baby.

“Where did you get this baby?”

My heart started pounding.

“Aaron, this is our son. You were here when he was born.”

“I know.”

His voice was barely a whisper.

“But he isn’t ours.”

I felt the blood drain from my face.

“What are you talking about?”

He carefully handed the baby back to the nurse.

Then he stepped closer to me.

“Look at his left ear.”

I stared at our son.

There was a tiny crescent-shaped birthmark just below his ear.

I’d never noticed it.

Aaron’s face had gone completely pale.

“My brother had that mark.”

I frowned.

“Your brother?”

Aaron had never spoken much about his childhood, especially about his older brother, Michael.

Michael had supposedly died when he was six months old.

At least, that was the story Aaron had always told me.

“What does that have to do with our baby?”

Aaron didn’t answer.

He walked to the window and stared outside.

Then he whispered:

“Because Michael didn’t die.”

I froze.

“What?”

Aaron turned around.

“My parents told everyone he died. They told me he died. But years later, I found documents proving he had been taken to another hospital.”

My stomach tightened.

“Taken?”

Aaron nodded.

“I was sixteen when I discovered the truth. My mother made me swear I’d never tell anyone.”

I looked down at our son.

“Why would they lie about their own child?”

Aaron’s eyes filled with tears.

“Because he wasn’t my parents’ biological son.”

Silence filled the room.

Then he looked directly at me.

“He was adopted.”

I didn’t understand.

“Then why hide it?”

“Because the adoption wasn’t legal.”

My hands began trembling.

Aaron explained that his parents had been involved with a private adoption arrangement decades earlier. Michael had been brought into the family under circumstances nobody was willing to discuss.

But there was something even stranger.

Aaron had recently discovered an old medical record.

It contained Michael’s genetic information.

And that record had been updated only a few weeks ago.

Someone had accessed it.

Someone who knew Michael’s identity.

And someone who apparently knew about our newborn son.

“That’s impossible,” I whispered.

Aaron reached into his jacket and pulled out his phone.

“I received this message yesterday.”

He showed me the screen.

There was a photograph.

It was our son.

Taken inside the hospital.

Underneath it were six words:

“You finally gave us another one.”

My stomach dropped.

“Who sent that?”

“I don’t know.”

Then another message appeared.

Aaron read it.

His face changed instantly.

“What does it say?” I asked.

He didn’t answer.

I grabbed the phone.

The message contained an address.

And one sentence:

“Bring the boy before midnight.”

I looked at Aaron.

“Who are these people?”

He stared at our son.

“I think they’ve been waiting for him.”

Then the hospital door opened.

A woman in a dark coat stood in the doorway.

She looked directly at Aaron.

Then at the baby.

And quietly said:

“I’m sorry. You were never supposed to find out this way.”

And when she revealed who she was, I finally understood why Aaron had spent years desperately trying to have a son.
