I Lied To Her On Our First Date Because I Was Tired Of Being Liked For My Bank Account — Until She Found Out Who I Really Was (Part 2)

I let out a massive breath I didn’t even realize I was holding, a huge smile breaking across my face as I stepped out of the Mercedes and opened the passenger door for her.
“Every single calorie, Ifeoma,” I promised, my voice thick with emotion as I handed her the rest of the bouquet. “We are going to the most expensive restaurant in Victoria Island tonight, and you can order the entire menu.”
She laughed, wiping a single tear from her cheek before stepping into the leather seat. For the next two hours at the restaurant, the atmosphere was perfect. We talked, laughed about our days at the cheap buka joints, and I finally told her everything about the tech hubs, the stress, and how her kindness had completely saved my soul.
But our beautiful bubble violently popped the moment we walked out of the restaurant toward the valet parking.
Standing right beside my Mercedes was my ex-fiancée, Cynthia, draped in designer bags and expensive jewelry, alongside two of her friends. She looked me up and down, then turned her gaze to Ifeoma’s simple teacher’s dress, letting out a loud, mocking laugh.
“Emeka? Is this what you’re doing now?” Cynthia sneered, crossing her arms arrogantly. “You broke off our engagement because you claimed I cared too much about your money, only to end up with a local village girl who looks like she can’t even afford a proper wig?”
I felt Ifeoma stiffen beside me, her confidence instantly faltering under Cynthia’s sharp insults. Before I could even step forward to defend her, Ifeoma gently placed her hand on my chest, stepping directly in front of me.
She looked Cynthia straight in the eye, her posture radiating a calm, unshakeable dignity that no amount of money could ever buy. [1]
“A woman’s value isn’t measured by the designer labels she wears on her back, sister,” Ifeoma said, her voice smooth, clear, and perfectly steady. “I loved Emeka when I thought he was just a struggling man with a battered leather bag. I bought him meals from my small salary because I believed in his spirit, not his wallet. Can you honestly say you would have stood by his side if his tech hubs disappeared tomorrow?”
Cynthia opened her mouth to shoot back a vicious reply, but she completely choked on her words. Her friends looked away in sheer embarrassment, realizing that the “simple teacher” had just utterly humiliated them with absolute class.
“Let’s go home, Emeka,” Ifeoma said, turning back to me with a beautiful, radiant smile that completely cut through the toxic energy around us. “We have a big house to start planning for.”
I unlocked the car, leaving Cynthia standing in the parking lot looking incredibly small, empty, and entirely defeated by the love she had discarded. In a world full of people looking for an inheritance, I had found a woman who was ready to build an empire from scratch—proving that a pure heart will always defeat a fake crown.
