MY EX-HUSBAND INVITED ME TO HIS WEDDING ALONE—SO I HIRED A FAKE BOYFRIEND. THEN MY EX SAW HIM AND TURNED WHITE.
PART 2
My ex stared at Adrian as if he’d just seen a ghost.
Then he said a name.
“Michael.”
Adrian’s face changed instantly.
For a few seconds, neither man spoke.
I looked between them.
“Who is Michael?”
Adrian finally released my hand.
“My real name isn’t Adrian.”
My stomach dropped.
My ex stepped closer.
“You were supposed to be gone.”
Adrian looked at him coldly.
“You paid me to disappear.”
I felt the room spin.
“What are you talking about?”
My ex glanced around nervously.
His bride, Victoria, was standing several feet away, watching us with a confused expression.
Adrian lowered his voice.
“Your ex-husband didn’t hire me to pretend to be your boyfriend.”
He looked directly at me.
“He hired me eighteen months ago to follow you.”
I froze.
“Why?”
Adrian reached inside his jacket and pulled out a small envelope.
“I was supposed to collect evidence that would make you look unstable and financially irresponsible.”
My hands began trembling.
“But I never used it.”
My ex’s face went pale.
“Give me that.”
Adrian stepped back.
“No.”
Then he handed the envelope to me.
Inside were photographs.
Bank statements.
Copies of emails.
And several documents bearing my signature.
I stared at them.
“I never signed these.”
“I know,” Adrian said.
My ex suddenly grabbed my arm.
“You don’t understand.”
I pulled away.
“Then explain it.”
He said nothing.
Adrian looked at him.
“Tell her what you were really planning.”
My ex swallowed hard.
Before he could answer, Victoria walked toward us.
“What is happening?”
Adrian looked at her.
Then at me.
Then he said something that made Victoria’s face turn completely white.
“Ask your fiancé why he transferred money from Claire’s accounts into yours.”
Victoria stopped breathing.
My ex closed his eyes.
And suddenly, I realized this wedding wasn’t just about revenge anymore.
It was the final stage of a plan my ex had been building against me for years.
And Adrian had just brought me the evidence that could destroy everything he’d worked so hard to hide.
But there was one document left inside the envelope.
One document that made me question whether my divorce had ever been what I thought it was.
