EIGHT MONTHS AFTER OUR DIVORCE, MY EX INVITED ME TO HIS WEDDING—HE DIDN’T KNOW I HAD HIS BABY
Eight months after our divorce, my ex called me out of nowhere.
“Come to my wedding. Fiona’s pregnant—unlike you.”
He had no idea I was answering from a hospital bed.
No idea I had just given birth.
And no idea the sleeping baby beside me was his.
For seven years, Julian blamed me for two miscarriages.
He called me broken.
Made me feel as though every loss had somehow been my failure.
Then he walked away with his assistant, Fiona—the same woman who later sent me flowers with a note that read:
“Some women are chosen.”
So when Julian called and smugly invited me to watch him “finally have a real family,” I did not cry.
I looked at my newborn daughter sleeping beside me.
Then I looked at the leather folder resting on the hospital chair.
Inside was a paternity test.
Bank records.
Emails.
And evidence connected to a large amount of money that had mysteriously disappeared from my inheritance during our marriage.
Julian believed our divorce had ended everything between us.
He had no idea I had spent the previous months discovering how much he had hidden.
I rested one hand beside my daughter.
Then I smiled.
“Sure,” I whispered. “I’ll be there.”
Julian laughed softly.
“I’m glad you’re finally being mature about this.”
I almost laughed too.
Because he thought he was inviting his humiliated ex-wife to sit quietly in the back of a church and watch him celebrate his perfect new beginning.
He had absolutely no idea what I was planning to carry through those wedding doors.
Or why the moment Fiona saw me holding a baby in one arm and that leather folder in the other…
every trace of color would disappear from her face.
Because the newborn Julian believed could never exist was only the first surprise.
The documents inside that folder were about to prove that Fiona knew far more about my missing inheritance—and my marriage—than she had ever admitted.
To be continued…
