PART 2 — My Husband Thought Seat 7C Was a Coincidence—Then the Flight Attendant Handed Him an Envelope
Adrian stared at my boarding pass.
Then at me.
Then at Vanessa.
“What is this?”
I smiled.
“It’s a boarding pass.”
His face tightened.
“You knew?”
“I’ve known for weeks.”
Vanessa looked at him.
“You said she didn’t know.”
Adrian swallowed.
“I thought she didn’t.”
That was when Vanessa’s expression changed.
“You told me your marriage was already over.”
“It was complicated.”
“No,” I said calmly.
“It wasn’t complicated.”
“You were married.”
Vanessa looked embarrassed.
“I didn’t know.”
I looked at her.
“That’s why I’m not angry with you.”
Adrian immediately turned toward me.
“Can we talk privately?”
“No.”
He lowered his voice.
“Please don’t do this here.”
I glanced around the cabin.
“You brought me here.”
The flight attendant approached.
“Mr. Cole?”
Adrian looked confused.
“Yes?”
She handed him a sealed envelope.
“This was left for you at the gate.”
His hands started shaking.
He opened it.
Inside was a single sheet of paper.
His face went completely pale.
“What is it?” Vanessa asked.
Adrian didn’t answer.
I already knew.
It was a notice from our attorney.
The financial transfer he had attempted three weeks earlier had been frozen.
The money he’d been moving into a private account wasn’t his to take.
It belonged to our joint business.
And I had documentation proving exactly where every dollar had gone.
Adrian looked at me.
“You hired a lawyer?”
“Yes.”
“You planned all this?”
“No.”
I leaned closer.
“You planned the affair.”
“I planned to protect myself.”
He stared at me.
“You’re destroying my life.”
I shook my head.
“You started destroying it when you decided I was someone you could lie to indefinitely.”
Vanessa stood.
“I need to get off this plane.”
The flight attendant stopped her.
“Ma’am, we’re already preparing for departure.”
Vanessa looked at Adrian.
“I don’t know who you are anymore.”
Then she walked away.
Adrian remained frozen in 7A.
For the rest of the flight, neither of us spoke.
But when we landed in Evermere, something unexpected happened.
A man was waiting near the terminal.
Adrian stopped walking.
I recognized him immediately.
He was the same man my private investigator had photographed meeting Adrian two months earlier.
Adrian had told me he was a potential business partner.
He wasn’t.
He was the person Adrian had been secretly planning to transfer company assets to.
The man looked at Adrian.
“Where’s the money?”
Adrian froze.
“What money?”
The man’s expression changed.
“You said the transfer would be completed before you arrived.”
I stepped forward.
“That’s because he thought nobody was watching.”
The man’s eyes widened.
Adrian looked at me.
“You followed me?”
“No.”
I smiled.
“I tracked the transfer.”
His face went pale.
Then my attorney called.
I answered on speaker.
“It’s done,” she said.
“Done what?”
“The court has issued the temporary order.”
Adrian stared at me.
“What temporary order?”
I looked him directly in the eye.
“You can’t sell the company.”
“You can’t transfer the accounts.”
“And you can’t access the money you tried to hide.”
He looked devastated.
Then his phone buzzed.
He checked the screen.
It was a message from Vanessa.
Only six words.
“I told your wife everything else.”
Adrian looked at me.
“What else?”
I didn’t answer.
Because I already had the message.
Vanessa had discovered something even I didn’t know.
Something about Adrian’s six-month affair.
Something that went far beyond cheating.
She had found another name in his phone.
A name Adrian had saved under a fake contact.
And when she sent me the screenshot, I realized my husband hadn’t been planning a new life with Vanessa at all.
He had been planning to disappear.
With someone else’s money.
And my daughter’s identity was somehow part of the plan.
