Tom Davis sneered, looking down at Sarah in her simple red dress with absolute contempt. He scoffed loudly, stepping closer to intimidate her, completely oblivious to the fact that he was barking at his own superior officer.
“And who do you think you are, lady?” Tom barked, his voice dripping with arrogance. “A civilian trying to teach the police how to do their job? Interference with a police officer is a crime. Get back in the cab before I throw you in handcuffs along with this pathetic driver!”
The surrounding officers chuckled, expecting the woman in the red dress to back down in fear. Instead, Sarah stood her ground, her posture shifting from a relaxed civilian to a hardened, authoritative commander. She didn’t flinch. Instead, she reached into her small handbag, pulling out a sleek leather wallet and flipping it open to reveal her gold New York City Police Captain badge and official credentials.
Tom’s smirk instantly vanished. The color drained from his face, turning him a ghostly pale as his eyes darted from the glittering gold badge to Sarah’s icy, unyielding stare. The junior officers behind him immediately snapped to attention, their jaws dropping in collective shock.
“Stand down, Sergeant Davis,” Sarah commanded, her voice cutting through the street noise like a siren. “I am Captain Sarah Johnson of the Internal Affairs Bureau. I have watched you fabricate a moving violation, assault an innocent civilian, and attempt to extort money from a hardworking citizen. Your badge number is 4412, and as of this exact second, you are relieved of duty.”
Tom began to tremble, desperately trying to stammer out an excuse.
“C-Captain… please, I didn’t know… we were just conducting a routine check—”
“Save it for the disciplinary hearing,” Sarah interrupted coldly. She turned to the stunned junior officers. “Handcuff him. Take his service weapon and his badge. Secure the dashcam footage from your cruiser. If any of you attempt to cover for him, you will be facing federal extortion charges right alongside him.”
She then turned back to the trembling taxi driver, Mike, and handed him his papers with a warm, reassuring smile.
“You’re free to go, Mike. Your ride today is on the house, and I promise you, this road is completely safe now.”
