PART 2 — The CEO Took the Microphone and Exposed Why My Husband Had Introduced Another Woman as His Wife
Thomas stood beneath the terrace lights, microphone in hand.
The music stopped.
Hundreds of people turned toward him.
Adrian looked like he wanted to disappear.
I stood beside the CEO, trying to understand what could possibly be worse than discovering my husband had introduced another woman as his wife.
Thomas looked directly at Adrian.
Then at the woman in the coral dress.
“Before anyone leaves,” he said, “there’s something we need to clear up.”
The woman immediately stepped backward.
Adrian grabbed her wrist.
“Don’t.”
She pulled away.
“It’s too late.”
My stomach tightened.
Thomas continued.
“The woman standing beside Adrian is not his wife.”
Everyone started whispering.
Thomas paused.
“She is my wife.”
The entire terrace went silent.
I stared at him.
Adrian’s face went completely white.
The woman covered her mouth.
I looked between them.
“What?”
Thomas turned toward me.
“Claire, I’m sorry. You deserved to know.”
My husband finally spoke.
“Thomas, this isn’t what you think.”
Thomas laughed bitterly.
“Isn’t it?”
He pointed toward the woman.
“Her name is Rachel.”
Rachel looked at the ground.
Thomas continued.
“She was my wife for fourteen years.”
My heart was pounding.
“Was?”
Thomas nodded.
“We separated eight months ago.”
Adrian suddenly stepped forward.
“Thomas, please.”
“No.”
Thomas raised the microphone again.
“You lied to me about the company.”
Adrian froze.
Then Thomas looked at me.
“And apparently, you lied to your wife too.”
I couldn’t breathe.
“What does the company have to do with this?”
Thomas hesitated.
Then he said,
“Adrian wasn’t working late.”
My husband closed his eyes.
“He was meeting Rachel.”
I looked at Adrian.
He didn’t deny it.
My chest tightened.
“How long?”
Adrian finally whispered,
“Six months.”
I felt something inside me crack.
Six months.
Six months of lies.
Six months of late nights.
Six months of pretending everything was normal.
But Thomas wasn’t finished.
“And they weren’t meeting because they were having an affair.”
I looked at him.
“Then why?”
Thomas reached into his jacket and pulled out a folder.
He opened it.
Inside were copies of bank transfers, company records, and photographs.
“Because Adrian and Rachel were trying to uncover who had been stealing money from my company.”
I stared at Adrian.
“What?”
He finally looked at me.
“I wanted to tell you.”
“You could have.”
“I couldn’t.”
“Why?”
“Because I didn’t know who I could trust.”
Thomas looked toward the crowd.
“For the last year, someone inside the company has been moving money through fake vendors.”
Adrian nodded.
“I discovered it six months ago.”
“And Rachel?” I asked.
“She worked in accounting,” Thomas said.
“She noticed the same irregularities.”
Adrian continued.
“We started investigating together.”
I stared at the woman in the coral dress.
“So why did you introduce her as your wife?”
Rachel answered this time.
“Because we needed access to a private meeting.”
Thomas’s expression darkened.
“That wasn’t the only reason.”
I looked at him.
“What aren’t you telling me?”
Thomas pulled out one final document.
A property transfer.
My name was on it.
I felt my blood run cold.
“Why is my name there?”
Adrian looked horrified.
“I didn’t put that there.”
Thomas pointed to the signature.
“Someone used Claire’s identity to authorize a transfer of company funds.”
I stared at the document.
It contained my address.
My driver’s license number.
Even information from our joint bank account.
Someone had been using my identity.
Then Thomas said something that changed the entire situation.
“The person who accessed Claire’s information had access to Adrian’s personal files.”
Everyone looked at my husband.
Adrian shook his head.
“No.”
Thomas slowly turned toward him.
“Think carefully.”
Adrian’s expression changed.
Then he looked at his phone.
“My mother.”
I frowned.
“What does your mother have to do with this?”
He swallowed.
“She helped with our taxes.”
Rachel immediately looked at Thomas.
Thomas nodded.
“We suspected someone close to Adrian.”
My husband stared at the documents.
“My mother has had access to my financial records for years.”
I suddenly remembered something.
The unfamiliar phone calls.
The strange questions his mother had been asking about our house.
The time she insisted on getting copies of our passports for “estate planning.”
I looked at Adrian.
“She had access to everything.”
He nodded slowly.
Then his phone buzzed.
A text message.
He read it.
His face drained of color.
“What?”
He handed me the phone.
The message was from his mother.
“You should have listened when I told you to leave Claire.”
Below it was another message.
“The police will be at the house in ten minutes.”
My heart stopped.
“Why are the police coming to our house?”
Adrian didn’t answer.
Thomas took the phone.
Then his expression changed.
“There’s an attachment.”
He opened it.
It was a photograph of our daughter.
Taken outside my sister’s house that afternoon.
My blood ran cold.
Someone had been watching her.
I immediately called my sister.
She answered on the first ring.
“Claire?”
“Is Nora still with you?”
“Yes. Why?”
“Lock the doors.”
My voice was shaking.
“Don’t let anyone near her.”
There was silence.
Then my sister whispered,
“Claire… there’s a man standing across the street.”
I couldn’t breathe.
Thomas immediately called security.
Adrian grabbed his keys.
But before we could leave, another message arrived.
This one was from an unknown number.
“If you want your daughter safe, bring the original company files to the old boathouse before midnight.”
I looked at Adrian.
Then Thomas.
The party had started as a celebration.
Now it had become a trap.
And the person behind everything knew exactly where my daughter was.
But there was one detail in that message that terrified me most.
It mentioned original company files.
Files that only three people knew existed.
Thomas.
Adrian.
And me.
I slowly looked at my husband.
Then I asked the question I had been afraid to ask all night.
“Adrian… what exactly did you hide from me?”
He stared at me.
And after a long silence, he whispered,
“The files aren’t at our house.”
“Then where are they?”
His eyes filled with fear.
“They’re hidden inside the one place my mother has never been able to access.”
He looked toward me.
“Your wedding ring.”
