The Cup You Think Will Fill First May Reveal More About Your Personality Than You Expect
Look carefully at the picture.
A stream of coffee is being poured into the pipe at the top, and six cups—A, B, C, D, E, and F—appear to be waiting below.
At first glance, it looks simple.
You might immediately choose the cup that seems closest to the main pipe.
Others may carefully follow every turn and assume the liquid will divide evenly between several cups.
But there is a trick.
Not every pipe is actually open.
Some of the pathways are blocked, meaning the liquid cannot travel through them even though they appear connected at first glance.
If you follow the open path from the top carefully, the liquid reaches the right-hand branch leading toward Cup F before the other apparently connected routes can receive anything.
So the answer is: F. ☕
And here’s where the viral personality-test claim comes in.
People often share puzzles like this with captions suggesting that your answer reveals whether you’re a narcissist, an introvert, highly intelligent, emotionally sensitive, or something similar.
But there’s an important distinction:
Choosing F does not scientifically prove that you’re a narcissist.
There is no established psychological test that can diagnose narcissism simply by asking someone which cup fills first.
What the puzzle can reveal is something much simpler: how you approach visual problems.
Do you immediately choose an answer based on appearance?
Do you slow down and inspect every connection?
Do you look for blocked pathways?
Or do you trust your first instinct?
Those differences can make these puzzles surprisingly entertaining because two people can look at exactly the same image and confidently choose completely different answers.
The real challenge isn’t deciding which cup looks closest.
It’s following the pipes.
Start at the top.
Follow the liquid.
Ignore the misleading branches.
Check for blockages.
And once you do that, the intended answer becomes much easier to see:
☕ F is the cup that fills first.
So, what did you choose before reading the explanation?
A, B, C, D, E, or F?
And be honest—did you follow the pipes, or did you trust your first instinct?
