The Old Woman Wasn’t Buying 60 Kilos of Meat for Herself

PART 2 — The Old Woman Wasn’t Buying 60 Kilos of Meat for Herself

For years, the villagers had whispered about the strange old woman.

Every morning, she arrived at the butcher shop with the same request:

“Sixty kilos.”

Not five.

Not ten.

Sixty.

She paid in cash, refused help carrying it, and disappeared toward the abandoned harbor.

Nobody knew what happened to the meat afterward.

Some people thought she was feeding dozens of stray animals.

Others believed something much darker was happening inside the abandoned ship.

Then one rainy afternoon, a young fisherman decided to follow her.

He watched from a distance as she walked through the rusted gate surrounding the old vessel.

She unlocked a hidden side door.

Then she disappeared inside.

The fisherman waited several minutes before following.

The smell of salt, rust, and something strangely familiar filled the air.

He walked deeper into the ship.

Then he heard a sound.

A low scratching noise.

He froze.

It came from somewhere beneath the floor.

He followed it down a narrow staircase.

At the bottom, he discovered a room that nobody in the village knew existed.

There were dozens of metal cages.

But they were empty.

Along the walls were old bowls, blankets, medical supplies, and stacks of photographs.

Then he heard footsteps behind him.

He turned.

The old woman was standing in the doorway.

She wasn’t angry.

She looked exhausted.

“You shouldn’t be here,” she whispered.

The fisherman pointed toward the empty cages.

“What is this place?”

The woman looked at the photographs.

“This ship carried animals,” she said.

He stared at her.

“Animals?”

She nodded.

Decades earlier, the abandoned ship had been used to transport hundreds of animals between countries.

During a storm, the vessel was forced into the harbor.

Something went terribly wrong.

Many animals were abandoned when the ship was evacuated.

But according to the old woman, not all of them died.

She had discovered the surviving animals when she was a young woman.

She had spent decades secretly caring for them.

But there was something the fisherman still didn’t understand.

“Then why sixty kilos of meat every day?”

The old woman slowly opened another door.

Behind it was a huge underground enclosure.

And inside were several enormous, aging rescue dogs—animals that had been living under her protection for years.

Some were blind.

Some were injured.

All of them were old.

She had promised herself she would never abandon them.

The fisherman stared in disbelief.

“You’ve been feeding all of them alone?”

She smiled.

“Someone had to.”

Then he noticed something hanging around her neck.

An old photograph.

It showed the abandoned ship decades earlier.

And standing beside it was a young woman.

The fisherman looked at the photograph.

Then at the old woman.

“You were there?”

She nodded.

“I was the person who helped rescue the first animals.”

Her eyes filled with tears.

“I couldn’t save them all.”

She looked toward the enclosure.

“So I promised the ones I could save that I’d never leave them again.”

The fisherman finally understood.

The village had spent years imagining something horrifying.

The truth was heartbreaking—but completely different.

The old woman wasn’t hiding a terrible secret.

She was keeping a promise.

But there was still one final mystery.

When the fisherman returned the next morning, the old woman was gone.

So were the animals.

All that remained inside the abandoned ship was a handwritten note pinned to the wall.

It contained only one sentence:

“If you found this place, then it’s finally time for someone else to continue what I started.”

And beneath those words…

was a list of sixty names.
