PART 2 — The Pregnancy Test That Made His Family Come for the House
Then Don Raúl stopped laughing.
He looked at me for several seconds, as if he were trying to understand what I had just said.
“Pregnant?”
I nodded, tears already filling my eyes.
He slowly sat down at the kitchen table.
Then he reached for my hand.
“Are you happy?”
I whispered, “I’m terrified.”
He squeezed my fingers.
“Then we’ll be terrified together.”
For the first time, our marriage no longer felt like an agreement made to protect a house.
It felt like a family.
But our happiness lasted only a few weeks.
One morning, three expensive cars stopped outside Don Raúl’s home.
His nephews stepped out.
They had never visited him so quickly before.
The oldest one, Carlos, walked straight to the front door and said, “Uncle, we need to talk.”
Don Raúl opened the door.
Carlos looked at me.
Then his eyes moved to my stomach.
His expression changed instantly.
“So it’s true.”
I felt a chill.
“What’s true?” I asked.
He gave a cold smile.
“That you’re pregnant.”
Behind him, another nephew whispered, “This changes everything.”
Don Raúl stepped forward.
“Get off my property.”
Carlos ignored him.
“You married an eighty-year-old man, and now you’re carrying his child? You expect us to believe this was all innocent?”
My face burned.
“I married him because I wanted to protect him. You were trying to take his home.”
Carlos laughed.
“No. You married him because you knew exactly what you could inherit.”
That accusation broke something inside me.
Don Raúl slammed his cane against the floor.
“She saved my house when my own family was trying to steal it!”
Carlos pulled a folder from his jacket.
“Then let’s see what the court thinks.”
Inside was a petition claiming that Don Raúl was mentally incapable of managing his estate.
They wanted a guardian appointed over him.
And they wanted the marriage investigated.
But there was one thing they didn’t know.
Before we married, Don Raúl had quietly changed his estate documents.
He had placed the house into a protected family trust.
And he had named someone nobody expected as the trustee.
Me.
Carlos stared at the papers in disbelief.
“You can’t do this!”
Don Raúl smiled sadly.
“I already did.”
But then Carlos leaned toward me.
“You think you’ve won?”
He lowered his voice.
“Wait until the DNA test.”
My heart stopped.
That evening, Don Raúl admitted something he had never told me.
There was another reason his family was desperate to control the house.
Years earlier, he had discovered that his nephews had been secretly taking money from his accounts.
He had confronted them.
And they had threatened him.
Now they believed my pregnancy was their final chance to challenge everything.
The next morning, however, something arrived at our doorstep.
An envelope.
Inside was a DNA test request—and a handwritten note.
It contained only seven words:
“You need to know who the father really is.”
I stared at the message in complete shock.
Because I knew the truth.
And so did Don Raúl.
But neither of us knew who had sent it.
