The Sergeant Had No Idea Who the Woman in the Red Dress Really Was

PART 2 — The Sergeant Had No Idea Who the Woman in the Red Dress Really Was

Tom stared at Sarah as if she had just committed a crime herself.

“Who do you think you are?” he snapped.

Sarah remained calm.

“Someone who knows the law.”

Tom laughed.

“This doesn’t concern you. Get back in your taxi.”

Mike looked terrified.

“Ma’am, please don’t argue with him. He’ll make things worse.”

Sarah didn’t move.

Instead, she looked at Tom’s badge.

“Sergeant Davis, correct?”

Tom’s expression changed slightly.

“How do you know my name?”

“I can read.”

She pointed toward his badge.

Tom stepped closer.

“You’re interfering with police business.”

“No,” Sarah replied. “I’m witnessing police misconduct.”

The other officers suddenly became uncomfortable.

Tom looked at them.

“Take this woman to the station.”

One officer hesitated.

“Sergeant…”

“I said take her!”

Sarah slowly reached into her handbag.

Tom immediately reached toward his weapon.

“Don’t move!”

Sarah stopped.

Then she pulled out her police identification.

She held it in front of him.

Tom glanced at it.

His face went completely white.

Captain Sarah Johnson.

The same captain whose name appeared on department orders.

The same captain who had authority over his entire district.

The street became silent.

Tom stared at the identification again.

“No…”

Sarah looked directly into his eyes.

“Yes.”

Mike stood frozen beside the taxi.

Sarah turned toward the other officers.

“Everyone remain exactly where you are.”

They immediately obeyed.

Tom tried to recover.

“Captain, I didn’t know who you were.”

Sarah shook her head.

“That is precisely the problem.”

She pointed toward Mike.

“You didn’t need to know who he was. You were supposed to treat him according to the law.”

Tom began sweating.

“Captain, this was a misunderstanding.”

“Really?”

Sarah looked at the papers he had taken from Mike.

“The driver’s documents are valid.”

She looked at the supposed $500 fine.

“Where is the citation?”

Tom couldn’t answer.

“Where is the record of the violation?”

Silence.

Sarah turned toward one of the younger officers.

“Officer, turn on your body camera and preserve the footage from the beginning of this stop.”

The officer immediately complied.

Then Sarah looked at Tom.

“Hand me your badge.”

Tom’s mouth opened.

“Captain…”

“Your badge.”

His hands trembled as he removed it.

But Sarah wasn’t finished.

She asked the other officers:

“How many drivers have been stopped here today?”

One officer looked down.

“Six.”

“How many received official citations?”

“None.”

Sarah’s expression hardened.

“And how many paid cash?”

Nobody answered.

She waited.

Finally, one officer whispered:

“All six.”

Mike looked stunned.

Sarah immediately ordered that the cash be documented and the drivers contacted.

Then she looked at Tom.

“You weren’t enforcing the law.”

“You were selling it.”

Tom suddenly dropped his arrogant expression.

“Captain, please. I have a family.”

Sarah’s voice softened—but only slightly.

“So did every driver you threatened today.”

Then she called the internal affairs division.

Tom’s face collapsed.

Within minutes, investigators arrived.

They searched the patrol vehicle and discovered envelopes containing cash.

But the biggest discovery came from Tom’s phone.

Investigators found messages showing that he had been sharing money with two other officers.

This wasn’t one corrupt sergeant acting alone.

It was a system.

And Sarah realized something even worse.

The drivers had been complaining for months.

Yet every complaint had mysteriously disappeared.

Someone inside the department had been protecting Tom.

Sarah stared at the evidence.

“Who approved the complaint closures?”

The investigator looked at her.

“There are dozens.”

He paused.

“And every single one was signed by the same person.”

Sarah took the document.

Her eyes widened.

The signature belonged to someone she knew.

Someone much higher up.

Someone who had been sitting in the department’s leadership meetings for years.

Sarah looked at Tom.

“Who is he working for?”

Tom lowered his head.

“I can’t tell you.”

Sarah stepped closer.

“You can.”

Tom looked terrified.

Then he whispered a name.

Sarah’s expression changed instantly.

Because the person he named wasn’t just another corrupt officer.

It was the police commissioner.

And suddenly, Sarah understood why nobody had ever been able to stop Tom before.
